Gary Wang
Bassist Gary Wang grew up in the Boston and San Francisco areas and began studying classical piano
at the age of 6. Becoming fascinated with jazz as a teenager, Wang picked up the acoustic bass at age 17 and dedicated himself
to the art form. Wang was a member of the T.S. Monk group for 5 years, and has also worked with Eric Alexander,
Don Braden, Nnenna Freelon, Dave Douglass, Roy Hargrove, Eddie Henderson, Vincent Herring, Dianne Reeves, Mark Turner, Stanley
Turrentine, Bobby Watson, Kenny Werner and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Ambassadors Band. Wang has toured
extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, Canada, Japan, South America and the Middle East, with appearances at Lincoln
Center (NYC), Town Hall (NYC), Newport/JVC Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz
|
Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Recently, Wang toured the newly independent states
of the former Soviet Union as a member of the 2001 U.S. Department of State Jazz Ambassadors Program.
