Donny McCaslin
2005 Grammy nominee Donny McCaslin was raised in Santa Cruz, California.
The son of a high school English teacher turned Jazz musician, Donny
performed with his father's band in his teenage years and then attended
Berklee College of Music where he studied with Herb Pomeroy, Gary Burton,
Joe Viola, George Garzone and Billy Pierce. While at Berklee Donny began a 4
year tenure in Gary Burton's Band.
Since moving to New York in 1991, McCaslin has performed and toured with a
wide variety of groups including

Steps Ahead, Danilo Perez & the
Motherland Project, Tom Harrell, Brian Blade, John Pattitucci, Lan Xang,
David Binney, Luciana Souza, Eddie Gomez, George Gruntz, Billy Hart, Santi
Debriano, The Mingus Big Band, and many others.
His 3 solo records, "Exile and Discovery", "Seen From Above", and "The Way
Through" have all garnered critical acclaim.
2006 will see the release of two new solo efforts "Give and Go" on Criss
Cross Jazz and "Soar" on Sunnyside Records as well as the premiere of new
original music commissioned by Chamber Music of America. Donny will also be
touring extensively with the Dave Douglas Quintet, The Maria Schneider Jazz
Orchestra, and his own group.
